Character Sketches
Displayed are earlier sketches of my main characters as I, basically, saw them in my head.
With Colin, I tried to imagine a regular, tall boy believing he was of French-Canadian background, but vaguely questioning his physical features. Though many New England tribe members look very much like any other of European descent, I did want to express stereotypical American Indian traits of high cheek bones and dark-black hair. My drawing doesn’t do him justice because I also want him to be quite handsome:)

Skyler represents my typical “white boy”, very much a common character found in the halls of our public schools state-wide. I made him “rotund” for the purpose of more cliched storytelling, allowing his character the feel of nerdiness and the struggle of being an outcast due to looks.

Jasmine was to be Asian and I somehow extended her background to more Pacific Islander/Hawaiian just to add a more specific origin. Having been raised in California, I thought the mix of Hawaiian and white would be easily possible. The California hippy-parent upbringing is more part of her personality than her cultural heritage. Even having a Wiccan grandmother is more of what Jasmine relates to.
