Please excuse the brief explanation of a more detailed film:
In the movie, Thunderheart, Val Kilmer, playing an FBI agent investigating a murder on a reservation (and who is half Indian), has a vision in a dream involving a power animal (something considered important and honored in the native world). What I remember of the story is that the tribal police officer, played by Graham Greene, was upset that this agent had such a dream, but he (a full-blooded Indian) has yet to have had one himself.
I had remembered this brief scenario because of my own experience. I, too, had, what some could read into, as a vision-dream…involving a power-animal. Almost the whole “initiation dream” in my book was the dream I had, and it was just as vivid. I actually had, and felt, a wolf run and jump into my body! I tried for a while to understand its meaning, but all I could come up with was that IT would be a great starting point for a novel. Which is how Initiation Dream was born.
